The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) will be participating in the United States Air Force (USAF)-hosted Exercise Red Flag - Nellis at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, United States, from 14 to 25 Aug 2017 (US time). The RSAF will be deploying eight F-15SG fighter aircraft and more than 100 personnel from its Peace Carvin V detachment in Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, to participate in this large-scale air combat exercise. The other international participants are from Saudi Arabia and the United States (US), with observers from Chile, Oman and Romania.

Exercise Red Flag - Nellis is a high intensity air-to-air combat exercise involving up to 100 aircraft including the Saudi Arabia's EF-2000 Eurofighter Typhoons and the USAF's F-22, F-16C/D, F/A-18C/D fighter aircraft and E-3A airborne early warning aircraft. The participating countries will engage in a series of realistic and challenging air-to-air and air-to-ground training missions. The training conducted during the exercise will allow the participants to hone their combat readiness and sharpen their operational capabilities.

The RSAF has been participating in Exercise Red Flag - Nellis since 1982. The exercise underscores the excellent and long-standing defence relationship between the United States and Singapore. It also enhances professionalism and interoperability among the participating forces, and provides the RSAF an opportunity to benchmark itself against other leading air forces.

    1. Unlikely. The su35 is a good fighter but there r pros and cons. It is not just about that but the country that purchases it. The most advance su35 is considered a 4.5th fighter for the russians. Which is russian standard. Western 4.5th gen standards are higher. We all cant deny that. European fighters might be the best 4.5th fighters since being used broadly among the nations u can have many types of inventory from US to EU nations. Like many other russian fighters they r good because they r cheap. Soviet style was simple. Built very cheap planes, when lost or destroyed in battle replace it easily. Mig29s are an example. It is easily replacable such that u can outbuilt what the enemy destroy or so in theory since it never happened. Downside is the mig 29 is a burden to maintain and quite underperforming. The mig35 was that the soviets dreamt of for their mig29.

    2. Modern day russian fighters like the su30s and su35s have perfrom better than soviet fighters despite setbacks like the fall of the soviet union which resulted in heavy loss of money. Su series fighters role are multirole however those fighters are very effective in dog fighting. Su35 can carry heavy payloads playing a much bigger role. The su35 is not cheap. Russia is not like the soviet union of the past and since then they have been improving on tech. When singapore was looking to replace the A4su skyhawks, there were 4 contenders. The F15, rafael, euro fighter and the su35. Initially the f18 was to be considered but the same company decided that f15 is better than the f18 after all it is a naval strike fighter. Last contenders was euro fighter and the f15. In the end the f15 was chosen despite euro fighter beating it in air to air. In the end F15 was chosen. The F15 can play well in all roles. Euro, rafael can play well in all roles however delta wing fighters strength is intercepting role and dogfighting. The lower payloads resulted in less effective performance in the wider battlefield requirements and back then euro fighter manufacteruers could not commit to the timeline. Boeing was kind enough to allow us to customise a little with enhanced varients of the F15 strike eagle. Which is the F15sg. Su35 was dominant in air to air however interoperability, maintainence and management, integration were problems as u r introducing an aircraft of a very different standard and u will have to cough up more cash to accomodate that. F15e has been the US air superiority fighter not only that it can play an effective role in air to ground role which is where the name strike eagle comes in. Enhanced eagles can play those roles easier with the ability to carry modern day munitions like the JDAM and AIM 120c n d amd close range missiles like sidewinders ad well. The payload it is able to carry is good with lots of loadouts available. The ease for future upgrades is an advantage as boeing will constatly improve on the F15e as u can see qatar is getting the so called advance eagle. Perhaps part of the 2040c f15 concept that boeing is working on. U can also tell that european nations are having problems to find a common agreememt for their future fighters. Rafael and griphen are improving but the euro fighters fate is uncertain as some would want a next gen fighter while others want constant improvements. With the brexit it would pose a challenge and the unstability in europe with politics being crazy over there i would be worried.

    3. rafael?? rafale?? su35?? wow..i thought singapore is not interested with russian product...so you confident that f15 will beat su35 in one on one battle??

    4. It depends how the user uses it. We all know very well that your su27 and su30s squadrons are not the usual squadron sized of 18 to 24 but around 11. Same with your su35 as you r planning for 10/11 fighters. A squadron must be able to conduct operations. The smaller the squadron the more difficult. With a squadron of 11, conducting operations will be stretch. Example RMAF has 8 F18s. For the squadron it will be difficult. Say example a mission your squadron task is to protect or escort multiple transport planes like c130s to a location. During your mission the formation is engaged by multiole hostiles. If the attacker has a full squadron then its bad news for the escorting fighters as the transports r likely to be destroyed as well as your fighters. Worst still if u r flying in unknown territory then suddenly u r engaged by not only fighters but gbad defences then gd luck if u need to deal with both threats. U need to clear the ground of hostile sams and clear the sky. With few platforms u r not able to achieve mission success.

    5. N in conflict a 1 to 1 is unlikely to happen. It is all about team work. If u encounter 1 to 1 it is likely that both sides have to few fighters. If u think that 40 f15sg will somehow be engage in a 1 to 1 with 8 su35s think again. More like 8 vs 1. Still think of a bigger picture you would include f5s, f16s, su30mk2, su27s.

    6. Remember we buy the f15 not because of 1 to 1. Whoever buys a fighter just because it is good at 1 to 1 is silly. U have to consider all aspects and other roles not 1 to 1 lol. Also do not forget. Remember when u bought the fighers from russia by bartering, they did not provided the best su30 series in fact the fighters u have are neither well equiped with munitions. Remember old articles which mentioned about the lack of munitions? Your fighters arent even well armed

    7. ok let say its really happen..maybe a f15 seperate with it group when doing manuever..bvr doesnt work..and wvr is the only way.. 4 vs 4...each figher busy doing manuever..

    8. Maybe u might win. Hard to tell. Comes down to the pilots. First we need to know what will your su35s be equiped with? Since the purchase is still not settled yet.
